Miles of Smiles is a local charity established early in 2008.  Based in Leyland in Lancashire we organise special treats – or ‘smiles’ -  for youngsters who need and deserve a smile in their life.

 

We are a very small team headed by Karen Rainford. Head office is Karen’s spare bedroom.  No expense spared.   Karen was a volunteer for a national children’s charity for several years.  In a mad moment she had what seemed like a good idea  – to start her own charity.  It was either that or get a job!  Encouraged and supported by a few friends Miles of Smiles was (eventually) formed.

 

The ‘few friends’ are now an essential part of the charity.  Each one has found their niche and everyone mucks in or does their own thing as and when necessary. 

 

We cover Preston, Chorley and South Ribble, Blackburn with Darwen, the Ribble Valley, Hyndburn and Accrington and were recently joined by Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale. 

 

We are totally a voluntary organisation – no –one gets paid for the work they do or the time they give.  Our reward is the smiles we see.  Not just from the youngsters but from mums and dads, aunties, brothers, sisters…………… 

 

These smiles are worth their weight in gold.
